Analytic Meditation 

 

1) Adopt the 7-Point Body Posture

2) Practice Belly Breathing for a few moments. 

3) Bring your Body, Speech, and Mind to Rest

4) Notice where your gaze is resting on the floor in front of you and place an object there. 

Step 1: While abiding and looking at the object, ask yourself the following questions: 

            a) What is its shape? 

            b) What is its size? 

            c) What is its color? 

            d) Where is its location? 

            e) Where did it come from? 

            f) Where will it go? 

Step 2: While still placing your gaze upon the object, place your attention on the contents of your mind (any thoughts or emotions that may appear) and ask yourself the same questions, this time referring to the mental appearances: 

            a) What is its shape? 

            b) What is its size? 

            c) What is its color? 

            d) Where is its location? 

            e) Where did it come from? 

            f) Where will it go? 

Step 3: While still placing your gaze upon the object, place your attention on the space in which the contents of your mind appear, and ask yourself the same questions, this time referring to the space of your mind: 

            a) What is its shape? 

            b) What is its size? 

            c) What is its color? 

            d) Where is its location? 

            e) Where did it come from? 

            f) Where will it go? 

Step 4: While still placing your gaze upon the object, noticing whatever is appearing in your mind, and the space in which the appearances occur. Place your attention on itself - look directly at the looking, and ask yourself the same questions: 

            a) What is its shape? 

            b) What is its size? 

            c) What is its color? 

            d) Where is its location? 

            e) Where did it come from? 

            f) Where will it go? 

Practice daily for 40 days. For optimal results, practice three times a day. 

 

Analytic Meditation requires a certain ability of concentration and is traditionally engaged in after one has practiced Concentration Meditation for some time.
